SIDBI was established on April 2, 1990 under an act oftheParliament. It is the principal financial institutionforpromotion, financing and development of MSMEs in India. Overtheyears, SIDBI has evolved as a one-stop institution to meetthevarious types of credit requirements of the MSME sector byofferingspecialized fund based and non-fund based financialproducts. Inkeeping with the spirit of innovation andentrepreneurship, SIDBIhas also enlarged its bouquet of offeringsover the years. One suchemerging area is the financing of energyefficient, greentechnologies that also offers a tremendousopportunity for thebanking sector. SIDBI is promoting sustainabledevelopment of MSMEsector as it is key to the MSME sector’ssurvival and growth infuture. In order to improve productivity andcompetitiveness of theMSME sector through EE measures in theproduction process, SIDBIscaled its EE financing by contractingbilateral Lines of Credit(LoC) from Japan International CooperationAgency (JICA), KfW andAFD. SIDBI has also availed a World Bank LoCto promote Cleantechnologies, Environmental and Social (E&S)standards in theMSME sector. SIDBI has channelized loan assistanceof more than USD1 billion for energy efficiency and cleanerproduction projects inMSMEs. Further, besides this WB-GEF Project,SIDBI is also activelyengaged in implementing a number ofdevelopmental initiatives likeEnd-to-End Energy Efficiency (4E)Programme, Partial Risk SharingFacility (PRSF) Project, etc. SIDBIis the principal financialinstitution for the promotion, financingand development of MSMEsin India. Over the years, SIDBI has evolvedas a one-stopinstitution to meet the various credit requirements ofthe MSMEsector by offering specialized fund based and nonfundbasedfinancial products.
